When you think of the houses where families build memories, where laughter mingles with morning coffee, chances are, Ryan R. Marshall had a hand in making them possible. As President and Chief Executive Officer of PulteGroup since September 2016, he leads one of America’s most trusted homebuilders with clarity, care, and conviction.

From Numbers to Neighborhoods: His Journey

Marshall’s story isn’t one of an outsider dropping into the corner office. He’s a homegrown leader. With a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Utah and an MBA from Arizona State University, he began quietly mastering the nuts and bolts of business.

Over the years, he climbed through every terrain of operations, from Area Vice President of Finance to Division President in South Florida and Orlando, then to Area President for Southeast and Florida. He later advanced to Executive Vice President of Homebuilding Operations, before stepping into the President’s shoes.

These layers of hands-on experience gave him a holistic understanding of land, strategy, markets, and everything that makes houses into homes.

Leading with Heart, Building with Purpose

When Marshall took the reins in 2016, he inherited more than a Fortune-ranked company. He embraced a legacy of homebuilding that spanned over 775,000 homes across the U.S. PulteGroup, once known as Pulte Homes, is now ranked as the third-largest U.S. home construction company, serving diverse buyers across more than 40 markets.

Under his leadership, the company has continued to thrive across brands, Pulte Homes, Centex, Del Webb, DiVosta, John Wieland, and American West, without losing its personal touch. Marshall’s steady hand balances scale with sensitivity, helping the company adapt as consumer needs evolve.

A Soul for Service: Built to Honor®

Ryan R. Marshall’s signature may well be defined by how he stands beside others. He’s deeply connected to PulteGroup’s Built to Honor® program, which delivers mortgage-free homes to disabled veterans and Gold Star families. Since its launch in 2013, this initiative has delivered over 80 homes, representing more than $30 million in value.

In November 2023, Marshall himself was named an honoree at the Building Homes for Heroes’ Gala, held at the New York Stock Exchange. He was recognized for his leadership and enduring devotion to veterans and their families.

“I am humbled to receive this recognition,” he said, “and grateful for the enduring partnership. It is a privilege to impact the lives of our nation’s heroes and their families.” Together, he and PulteGroup pledged to collaborate on seven more homes for veterans in the year ahead.

Beyond the Blueprint: A Leader with Vision

What makes Marshall’s leadership stand out is how down-to-earth it feels. He talks about homes as places of hope, of everyday life unfolding. In his own letter to customers, he writes of Pulte’s guiding principle: “Do the Right Thing.” He frames the homebuilding process as deeply personal, each floor plan crafted for life, each innovation added for the simple joys of family, connection, and comfort.

He also embraces innovation, pre-wiring new homes for smart technology, offering energy-efficient options, and even built-in support for electric car charging and smart locks. These touches show that he understands homes as living, evolving spaces, not static structures.

A Legacy in the Making

Marshall’s leadership feels both bold and grounded. He’s carried forward a company with deep roots and lifted it into a future where scale works hand-in-hand with service, innovation, and heart.

Holistic leader — Every promotion in his career gave him a closer look at the contest, the design, the balance sheet, and the community.

Visionary with a smile — His commitment to veterans echoes not just in words, but in homes built, families supported, and lives honored.

House-smart innovator — Lights, locks, energy, and ease, Marshall believes a meeting at the front door deserves seamless choices.

In Ryan R. Marshall, the homebuilding community has a steward who sees houses as more than buildings. He views them as living, evolving foundations where dreams are built, and memories are made. That simple belief, grounded, generous, unwavering, makes all the difference.
