Construction projects move fast, but much of the industry still depends on phone calls, handwritten notes, and manual updates to track daily work. Important details often get lost between conversations and paperwork, creating delays and confusion on job sites. Startup Hardline believes voice technology can help solve that problem.
Hardline, a construction technology startup based in Santa Monica, California, has raised $2 million in pre-seed funding to expand its voice-first platform for the construction industry. The funding round was led by Mucker Capital, with participation from StandUp Ventures, Suffolk Technologies, Nirman Ventures, and Alumni Ventures.
The company was founded in 2025 by Karly Heffernan and Alena Tuttle. Hardline develops software that converts jobsite conversations and phone calls into structured digital records. The platform can automatically create RFIs, punch lists, change orders, task updates, and daily logs from spoken communication.
Turning Conversations Into Project Records
Construction teams often rely on verbal communication while managing projects. Workers, supervisors, and contractors frequently share updates through calls or on-site discussions instead of formal reporting systems.
Hardline’s platform aims to reduce that gap by automatically capturing and organizing information from conversations. The company says this approach can help reduce administrative work while improving project tracking and documentation.
Co-founder Karly Heffernan said field managers already understand what is happening on projects, but documenting every update takes time away from their work. Hardline wants to make documentation part of the normal communication process rather than adding another task to the workday.
Co-founder Alena Tuttle explained that the company built the software around existing construction habits instead of forcing teams to change how they communicate. According to the company, phone calls remain one of the most common ways construction teams coordinate daily operations.
Platform Integrates With Existing Construction Tools
Hardline’s software integrates with construction management platforms, including Procore, Autodesk Forma, and Fieldwire. The platform currently supports both English and Spanish to serve a broader workforce across construction sites.
The startup also expanded its leadership team by appointing Kimball Hill, formerly a senior AI engineer at Klarity, as chief technology officer.
Investors backing the company believe communication remains one of the construction industry’s biggest operational challenges. Suffolk Technologies said many important project updates still remain trapped in informal conversations instead of entering official project systems.
Expansion Plans After Funding Round
Hardline says its platform is already being used across 10 U.S. states and two countries by commercial contractors, residential builders, and specialty trade companies. The company also participated in the 2025 BOOST Accelerator run by Suffolk Technologies and received recognition from BuiltWorlds and the International Builders’ Show.
Hardline plans to use the new funding to strengthen product integrations, improve its telephony infrastructure, and expand its reach among small and mid-sized construction businesses. As construction companies continue searching for ways to improve efficiency and reduce paperwork, voice-based technology platforms like Hardline could play a larger role in managing communication directly from the job site.
