The transition to clean energy continues to gain momentum as investors increase their support for renewable energy projects. In the latest development, Solar Landscape has secured a development financing facility of up to $150 million from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). The investment will help the company speed up the development of commercial rooftop solar projects across the United States and strengthen its growing pipeline of distributed energy assets.
The financing comes through CIP’s Green Credit Fund II (CI GCF II) and is designed to provide flexible capital during the project development stage. The funding will enable Solar Landscape to move projects toward construction more quickly while meeting the increasing demand for reliable and clean electricity.
Financing Will Support 250 MWdc Development Pipeline
Solar Landscape announced that the financing facility will initially support approximately 250 megawatts direct current (MWdc) of mid- and late-stage distributed solar development assets.
The capital will be used for critical project development activities, including equipment procurement, securing grid interconnection, completing power purchase and off-take agreements, and advancing pre-construction work. By funding these activities earlier in the development cycle, the company expects to shorten project timelines and accelerate construction. Unlike traditional project financing that is typically arranged after projects are ready to build, this development financing provides greater flexibility and helps projects progress more efficiently.
Solar Landscape Continues to Expand Its Rooftop Solar Business
Headquartered in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Solar Landscape develops rooftop solar systems on commercial and industrial buildings. The company works with commercial real estate owners and electric utilities to convert unused rooftop space into clean energy assets.
According to the company, it has deployed more than 500 solar projects, representing over 750 MWdc of generation capacity. Solar Landscape also partners with more than 170 commercial real estate owners and utility companies across the United States. The company’s business model focuses on using existing commercial rooftops instead of open land, helping expand renewable energy generation without requiring additional land development.
Investment Builds on Strong Financial Growth
The new financing adds to Solar Landscape’s recent capital-raising efforts. Over the past three years, the company has secured more than $2.2 billion in financing to support its continued growth.
Its previous funding includes a $600 million senior debt facility, a $125 million corporate revolving credit facility, and a $117 million preferred equity investment. These investments have helped the company expand its nationwide portfolio of distributed solar projects. The latest commitment from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners further strengthens Solar Landscape’s financial position as it continues to develop renewable energy infrastructure across the country.
Executives Highlight Long-Term Partnership
Clayton Avent, Chief Financial Officer of the company, said the financing demonstrates confidence in the company’s development platform and will help accelerate project delivery across its growing pipeline. He added that access to flexible development capital allows the company to move projects toward construction more efficiently.
Reiner Boehning, Partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, said the investment reflects CIP’s strategy of supporting high-quality renewable energy projects. He noted that Solar Landscape has established a strong track record in distributed solar development and that the financing will help advance projects that contribute to the ongoing energy transition.
Growing Demand for Distributed Solar
Commercial rooftop solar has become an increasingly important part of the U.S. renewable energy market. By generating electricity close to where it is consumed, distributed solar projects can improve energy resilience while making better use of existing commercial infrastructure.
With the new financing facility, Solar Landscape is well positioned to expand its development pipeline and bring additional projects into construction. As businesses and communities continue to seek reliable clean energy solutions, investments such as this are expected to play an important role in supporting the country’s renewable energy goals.
The partnership between the companies marks another significant step in expanding distributed solar infrastructure in the United States. By providing up to $150 million in development financing, CIP is enabling Solar Landscape to accelerate project development and strengthen its contribution to the nation’s growing clean energy sector.
