Construction and project development giant Skanska has been named Europe’s Best Employer 2026 in a new ranking published by the Financial Times in partnership with research company Statista. The recognition places Skanska at the top of a list of 1,000 companies across Europe and highlights the company’s growing reputation as a leading workplace in the region.
The ranking was based on independent surveys that collected more than six million employer evaluations from employees across Europe. Workers rated companies on several factors, including working conditions, salary, opportunities for career growth, and company image.
Employees Drove the Rankings
According to the methodology published by the Financial Times and Statista, companies included in the study had at least 500 employees and operations in multiple European countries. Direct recommendations from employees carried the highest weight in the final rankings, while indirect recommendations from industry peers and public reputation also contributed to the scores.
Skanska secured the number one position in the 2026 ranking, reflecting strong employee confidence in the company’s workplace culture and leadership approach.
In an official statement, Skanska President and CEO Anders Danielsson said the company was proud of the recognition and credited employees across the organization for helping create a strong workplace culture. He said the ranking reflects Skanska’s commitment to building an environment focused on care, collaboration, development, and accountability.
Focus on Workplace Culture
Skanska also emphasized that attracting and retaining skilled employees remains an important part of its long-term business strategy. The company stated that a positive work environment helps strengthen innovation, safety, and overall project performance.
Therese Tegner said the recognition shows the company’s ongoing efforts to support employee development and create an inclusive workplace culture across its international operations.
The company operates in construction and project development across Europe, the Nordic region, and the United States. Skanska is widely known for infrastructure, commercial property, and residential development projects, along with its focus on sustainability and long-term urban development.
One of Europe’s Largest Construction Companies
Founded in Sweden, Skanska has grown into one of the world’s largest construction and development companies. The company reported revenue of SEK 179 billion in 2025 and employs around 25,900 people globally.
The Financial Times employer ranking has become an important benchmark for companies competing to attract skilled talent in Europe. For Skanska, topping the 2026 list marks a significant achievement in an industry facing increasing competition for experienced workers and technical expertise.
The recognition also comes at a time when workplace culture, employee well-being, and career development opportunities are becoming more important factors for professionals choosing employers across Europe.
